Dave Norton

About

David "Dave" Norton is a central character in Grand Theft Auto V and serves as a deuteragonist to Michael De Santa. He is a corrupt FIB agent who made an illegitimate deal with Michael Townley after the failed Ludendorff heist in 2004.

Background

Dave Norton began working for the Federal Investigation Bureau at an unknown point in time. His career was considered unremarkable until he discovered the whereabouts of Michael Townley in Ludendorff, North Yankton. Dave made a secret deal with Michael that allowed Michael to fake his death, relocate to Los Santos under the name Michael De Santa and live under FIB protection.

Events of Grand Theft Auto V

During the 2004 Ludendorff heist, Dave ambushes Michael, Trevor Philips and Brad Snider. While aiming at Trevor, he shoots Brad instead and helps stage Michael's fake death. Years later, Dave keeps Michael under control in Los Santos and becomes involved again after Michael and Franklin Clinton rob Vangelico. Under pressure from Steve Haines, Dave helps force Michael, Franklin and Trevor into several FIB operations against the IAA. During the Kortz Center standoff, Dave survives after Steve Haines betrays the group and kills Andreas Sanchez.

Personality

Dave Norton is corrupt, but less openly sadistic and reckless than Steve Haines. He is usually calmer, more polite and more reasonable, preferring to solve problems without unnecessary violence. However, he is still willing to break the law and manipulate others when it protects his career or his secrets.

Trivia

Dave Norton was at one point known during development as Calvin North. His favorite radio station is Los Santos Rock Radio. In Grand Theft Auto Online, Dave can be called, but the call only reaches his answering machine.
